AN INNOVATIVE HEIGHT SAFETY SOLUTION FOR AN AWARD-WINNING LUXURY LODGE
This South Island building undulates, flows and resurfaces from the depths of its surrounding hill. The Lindis Luxury Lodge is so set against the idyllic backdrop of the Huxley Range, it becomes almost invisible, camouflaged in part by its rolling hill shape roof and by the timber that forms its impressive lamella, gridshell roof. The brown tones of its spotted gum compliment the grasslands and tussocks that surround it. The arms of the Ahuriri River seem to ebb as a continuation of the building’s curvature.
Without detracting from the striking design aesthetic PBI provided a roof safety system with absolute minimum roof penetrations to retain maximum water tightness of this complex build in an extreme environment. Given the complex roof buildup in this pristine and remote location, the challenge was to provide non-obtrusive, non-penetrating fall-arrest anchorage onto the membrane of the roof structure.
This was not an easy feat as factors such as extremes of temperatures and snow loading had to be taken into consideration.
HEIGHT SAFETY SOLUTION
Working closely with Brosnan Construction and the use of 3D renders to understand the complex and sweeping roof design, PBI followed the project build closely to ensure each step of the anchor installation process was completed to a high standard before the interiors were closed and the rainscreen roof completed. Roofsafe Spiratech surface mounted anchors were installed and carefully finished into the membrane waterproofing system ensuring minimal roof penetrations.
Lindis Lodge is an outstanding work of architecture and design, which PBI is very proud to be part of this complex and challenging build.
